HISTORY
The Recording Library began as the Recording Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in 1963. Mayme K. Martin founded the library after she was diagnosed with macular degeneration. It was the first free library of its type in the nation. After seven years in Mrs. Martin’s home, the Library moved to a donated building on property of the First Presbyterian Church on N. “C” Street. The Library is now located at 2012 Cuthbert, across from Memorial Stadium.

In 2007, the Recording Library began upgrading from its analog roots to a brand new, digital recording system. This system allows us to produce more materials, with a quicker turn-around time. The new equipment is also more cost-effective to maintain. Below is a picture of one of our old, beloved reel-to-reel machines. To the right, a photo of one of our new recording booths.
